Chronic Persistent Pelvic Pain.

This information was aligned with the her studies in chronic persistent pain over the past few years and she was able to connect with Hobart’s like minded clinicians who are involved with team managing women and young women who have pelvic pain. Pamela can assist with the biomechanical, musculoskeletal and pain managment components of pelvic pain in these teams.

It is valuable for our clients to be in supportive health care group that are aligned in the contemporary knowledge working with the new paradigms like the BPS model. Osteopathy has used this approach for over 20 years described in Osteopathic texts, (Greenman, 2000). Osteopaths can help in this framework.

There are fabulous resources for women who have pelvic pain from conditions like painful periods, endometriosis and other sources of persistent pelvic pain. Working alongside your upskilled GP, Physiotherapists who work in Women’s health, Psychologists, Gynacologists, Pain Specialists, Incontence Nurses and other health care providers like Osteopaths who are trained and upskilled in contemporary pain management, women have more opportunities to ‘stop the silence’ of this area, pelvic pain.

Capsaicin Cream

Capsaicin – is a hot peppery cream that is used in pain management. The initial burning feel of this topically applied cream may be off putting but with regular use 3-4 times a day for a month – 6 weeks could provide several months of relief from arthritis joint pain, neurological burning pain, post herpetic neuralgia type pain. The capsaicin molecules bind to the nerve receptors that transmits pain to the brain to be interpreted as pain. By blocking the receptors (which reverses over time) temporary relief may be achieved.

I have had a number of patients that have relief from the short term use of this cream which is available at chemists over the counter. Zostrix is a product available OTC but speak to your pharmacist.

It is important to read all warnings and instruction brochure that comes with this product and use with the help of a health practitioner’s advise.

Think of Hiring a Treadmill or Exercise Bike Over Winter.

If you are full of excuses about the dark, cold, rain and just cant get off the couch or away from your computer….. like now. Hiring an exercise bike or treadmill may get you through the winter without putting on too much extra padding. Arrange a schedule that means you go to bed earlier, wake up an hour earlier and get on the machine in the comfort of your own home before the kids get out of bed or your have to get to work etc. Dont let the equipment become another clothes horse or bread making machine… if you know what I mean. Come spring you will notice the extra energy of not having those extra winter kilos and eat a good diet.

Hop And Jump Then Zumba

If you have had any previous sporting or dance injury get checked out first by your health professional before starting any new type of exercise. If you can hop comfortably on each leg with good balance and stability and jump high with both legs from a bent knee position without pain you may be ready to get your legs and lower limb into a bit of fun with Zumba. This is the new (ish) dance exercise craze that is fun and starting up in groups all around the community. Search for a qualified instructor under Zumba Australia and start having some fun exercise.

If you have upper limb, neck and shoulder pain or previous injury once again this may not be the best place for you to start. Rehabilitate your old injuries first with a qualified health professional so you can join in a group exercise.

It can be best to get one on one care to start with, such as Osteopathic consultation, examination and treatment or try Pilates with a qualified instructor in a one instructor to three client sessions. The ratio is safer to help rehabilitation than in big groups of Zumba frenzy fun if you are in pain or have a previous injury.

At best spring is here – longer days, more sun and a great time to get into exercise. Walking is the best form of exercise that is free and benefits your whole body. Start walking 30 – 45 mins, three times a week and feel the benefits really fast!
